Andrew

Andrew Scrivani

Andrew Scrivani is a commercial photographer and director with extensive experience in all three arenas of food and lifestyle photography and videography: editorial, publishing and advertising. He is also an internationally recognized workshop instructor and columnist on the subject of food visuals. His clients include: The New York Times, Conde Nast, Meredith Corporation, Hearst Corporation, Disney, Hay House Publishing, Clarkson Potter, Norton and Grey Advertising.

Soo-Jeong

Soo-Jeong Kang

Soo-Jeong Kang spent thirteen years at The New York Times as a distinguished and award-winning Photo Editor, Video Director and Executive Producer developing original video content including Recipe Lab and Cook Fight for the Food section.

In 2015 she founded Big Machine Films which has been focused on developing content for various new media. Her wealth of knowledge, experience and vast network of visual professionals creates a unique combination that provides a strong foundation for all aspects of visual storytelling. She has been referred to as a “force of nature.”

Kate McDermott

Kate McDermott is the creator and founder of Art of the Pie®. Lauded by the likes of Ruth Reichel, Dorie Greenspan and Elise Bauer, she is widely acknowledged as one of the best pie makers ever, and has taught the time-honored craft to thousands. She has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today and countless other publications. In 2008 her pie was featured in Saveur Magazine’s: The Saveur 100 issue and appeared on the cover. Kate’s first book, Art of the Pie®, will be published fall 2016.

Shooting in a restaurant

Shooting in a restaurant - Great opportunity to shoot a requested list of photos for a restaurant owner acting as a client. Participants will shoot menu items, the interior of the restaurant, and the chef. This exercise provides excellent practice shooting inside a restaurant with a crazy combination of light sources including, decorative, ambient and window light. - eve Restaurant

Coordinate, style and shoot a regional culinary shoot

Coordinate, style and shoot a regional culinary shoot - Participants will break into groups, plan & shoot a Pacific Northwest themed dinner including: appetizer, salad, entree, dessert & beverage.

Opportunity to combine still

Explore the relationship between still and motion photography to create compelling narratives.

21 Acres Center for Local Food & Sustainable Living Center in Woodinville


A non-profit agricultural and environmental learning center and living laboratory for green and sustainable building design. Through education and advocacy, 21 Acres seeks to accelerate social change toward more sustainable ways of growing, eating and living that protect the environment while supporting a better quality of life.


We will practice shooting in natural light, both indoors and outdoors at 21 Acres.

Run by a diverse group of talented, creative professionals specializing in photography, video production and media platforms, they provide brilliant studio space, offer: in-house and on-location production services, photography, lighting and studio equipment, grip equipment, video lighting and grip equipment and prop services. The space itself is an 8,700 square foot fully equipped production facility in downtown Queen Anne with room for three shooting bays, a kitchen and wardrobe room.


We will gain experience shooting in a professional studio at The House Studios. Our collaborative regional culinary shoot will take place here.

Co-owned by Jill Buchanan & Debra Russell, eve reflects their dedication to fine craftsmanship, delicious food, an inviting space and welcoming service. Their focus is on the healthy benefits of eating whole and unrefined foods.


We will practice shooting different items in a restaurant setting. The focus will be on shooting from a client’s requested list, as well as in difficult light situations.

Bring your appetites and passion for food to the table, or tables. Our menu for the retreat boasts the best cuisine the PNW offers. Enjoy delicious, casual meals, connect with each other and develop new friendships. It’s everything we seek, when we sit down for a meal with friends, and more.

  • Barn to Table Reception Dinner featuring ingredients from local farms.
  • Breakfasts catered by 21 Acres
  • Homemade pizzas cooked in 21 Acres outdoor pizza oven
  • Saturday Supper at Tandem Wine Bar with wine tasting
  • Last Supper at McMenamin’s around the outdoor fire pit

You will also have the opportunity to spend one day on the Seattle Waterfront to experience mouthwatering local fare, visit Starbucks flagship store and sample your way through the street food at Pike Place Market.
